Tag: Wants wanted

Some many moons ago, Little Miss May tagged me to write on 10 things I want, and 10 things I don't want for my birthday.

Work, Holidays, and Selective Memory Loss has contributed to putting the tag aside until now, when I finally dug it up from the archives of tags to be completed and put my mind to fulfilling it.

I hope you don't mind, May !!

  1. The Nikon 18-200 lens. It's really called the AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED, but all I care is that it's the best multipurpose Nikkor lens I can lay my hands on.
  2. The Manfrotto 475B Tripod. I need a good, sturdy tripod for photographing macro subjects.
  3. A holiday in the Maldives. Sun and sand is always welcome.
  4. A brand new Honda Civic 2.0 ... =) ... I know, I can dream on. But it's my wishlist, no ?
  5. The Montblanc Meisterstruck WA Mozart pen .. I'm not sure if I really need this, but then again, which yuppie doesn't have a Montblanc pen?
  6. Tubs and tubs of raisins. How can you explain why such small grains of dried grapes bring such joy to me?
  7. Watching Liverpool triumph at Anfield. Preferably over some blue team from the otherside of town. Or some red team associated with the devil, no less.
  8. Enjoy some nice durian with friends. D24 will be nice indeed ...
  9. Quite time with friends and family. Key word: Quiet.
  10. One more year of great time to look forward to ! You can scrap the other 9 if I get to have this last one !!!!
And that brings us to my list of things I don't want for my birthday. Here goes ...

  1. That the national holiday on my birthday be removed ...
  2. A noisy, big, birthday celebration
  3. A sudden surge of birthday cards. C'mon folks ... at my age, I don't want to be reminded !
  4. A fridge without oranges it in
  5. No KFC to have on that day ...
  6. Bad weather that will prevent any viewing of the sunset
  7. Running out of raisins will be a disaster ..
  8. Being in a boring place. Such as the office.
  9. Any sort of bad news
  10. Work. Any sort of work at all.

Just to annoy Applegal, who is surely enjoying her KK holiday, I'm making her do this tag !

Tag: Six Things About Moz On The Move

My tag tormentor pal tagged me, and not for the first time too. Must be the lame post I did. Or is it?

This assignment is considerably easier than the previous, 70 question marathon. Don't give me that. Evar. Now, back to the tag ... I'm supposed to list 6 things about me that most people don't know of. I'm supposed to be good at making lists, and should have no problem completing this tag, says the tagger.

Let's give it a shot and see how this works out ... it's getting harder and harder to reveal things about myself and yet not reveal things about myself.

So, to make it easier for me to make this list, I'm giving it a theme: Moz on the move. I travel a bit for my work, and so, I guess it's easier for me to list things you don't know about me when I'm travelling. Or not.

  • I make a very unique drink everyday for myself when I'm in the office in KL. I mix Milo with a strong expresso brew, and then top it with low fat milk. No water added to keep the mix strong and smooth. I call it the Mozzichino. It's good !
  • I only sit on window seats for flights longer than 2 hours. Why? Because I like to look out at the sky. I actually go to the extent of making sure my travel agent reserves a window seat. And I always choose the side which is away from the sunshine, so I won't have to close the window, if I can help it.
  • I also love to photograph clouds when I'm flying. (see picture above)
  • Whenever I'm staying in hotels, I sleep without fully drawing the curtain. Time zone differences and long working hours, plus less than reliable wake up calls means it's a lot easier to just let the sun wake you up. Well, except when it rains. And it happened a few times before ... =(
  • Because I dislike packing and unpacking, I actually have 2 travel kits (1 for each suitcase) with a full set of toiletteries, over the counter medications and sewing kit, always placed in my travel suitcases. And each suitcase is also packed with a full business suit as well. I hate to pack and unpack mah ...

So ... there you go. Hope you've learnt something about me ...

I'm tagging applegal and infectioner. I want to know 6 things about the both of you that most people don't know of.

70 questions. 70 !!!! Who started this all???

Angeliu tagged me to do 70 questions. Look, I am awfully short on inspiration lately, but I don't think I needed a 70 questions tag. Sien.

Meme: Top 5 favorite movies

Che-cheh must have noticed the lack of inspiration lately in my blogs, and decided to do something about it. She's tagged me for a simple meme - listing my Top 5 Favorite Movies.

I'll have to put this disclaimers:

My deprived childhood (yeah, I was a child laborer, and was forced to peddle DVDs and sell lottery tickets - NOT) meant that I didn't quite watch a lot of movies. But that's the easy to understand part. The hard to understand part is that in my adulthood (which is still hotly disputed - some people think my IQ is that of an 8 year old boy), I still don't watch many movies. That's because I sometimes boycott cinemas, sometimes the cinema boycott me, and I sometimes buy the DVD but never watch the movie. Please don't question the reason(s) for my miserable living conditions. It's depressing enough to live it, don't make me answer for it too.

Having said that, I do have many favorite movies, and when asked to mention my top movies, depending on the mood, I'll list out different ones. So for this meme, I'm feeling a little inspired, calm, and content. Based on this mood, here's my list of favorite movies ...

Phantom Lover (Cantonese, Leslie Cheung & Jacqueline Wu)

Based loosely on the Romeo and Juliet, this movie is a favorite for sentimental reasons - the soundtrack. It reintroduced me to Leslie Cheung, and got me to rediscover this icon of Hong Kong entertainment industry. The acting's not too bad, and the plot's a little predictable. It's all about Leslie Cheung and his singing.

And the way they do the flashbacks in black and white ... and then the scenes in the present in color. It's interesting to me because it's the first time I've seen that done in a movie.

Disclaimer though, I'm interested in Leslie Cheung's acting and singing. Not Leslie Cheung himself hor.

Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks)

This damn movie touched me. Made me cry in the cinema. Made me believe an unbelievable story line. And I don't understand why. Even today. I'm still trying to understand why I'm so touched, but I think it's the story, as unbelievable as it is. Tom Hanks can just sell you the most unlikely story, can't he?

I remember playing the theme from this movie on the piano and imagining a feather slowly making its way to me (just like in the opening scene). And I'll always remember the running scene, where Forrest was running against a stunning background - that of a beautiful snow capped mountain reflected on a lake - with the commentary that goes - "and where you can't tell where heaven ends and earth begins" - or something to that effect. *tsk*

Lord of the Rings Trilogy (Don't tell me you don't know about this?)

We all know about this. I enjoy the movie because of its epic production and the well done story telling. It's nowhere as good as the book, but it's a pretty good rendition of it. Plus, the acting's not bad at all.

The Rock (Nic Cage, Sean Connery)

How can you beat this for pure action? The storyline sucks. The plot is implausible. You know the good guy, who's a geek, will kick ass in the end. You know the old man, a prisoner, will be free as well. So ... why watch this one then?

You watch it because you want shootouts! You want explosions! You want bombs! You want fight scenes! It doesn't hurt that you get Sean Connery in it. He's the reason why I look forward to aging. Who knows? Maybe I'll look better when I'm older. Hope springs eternal !!!

Storm Riders (Cantonese, Aaron Kwok, Ekin Cheng, Shu Qi)

Ok, Chinese comic book buffs - you can come out from hiding !!! This is the movie adaptation of the chinese comic of the same title. I've had fantasies of being one of the two heroes in this wuxia movie - Cloud or Wind. Hehe ... given a choice, I'd like to be Cloud - more moody lah - like my alter ego.

The acting is no good. The action is not too bad. The special effects are good by HK standards. The best part about this movie is when the Sword Saint (played by Anthony Wong), appeared - the audience actually laughed - but he's supposed to be a serious character ... so farnie !!! But his fight scene with Sony Chiba's Lord Conqueror is actually pretty good - the one where all the people in the hall freezes.

OK ...

So now, you've heard my Top Top Favorite Favorite Movies. In the spirit of propagating mindless, entertaining memes, I'm tagging the following blog-pals.

But ...

(There's got to be a but somewhere, no?)

Because this meme is so easy ... I'm tagging with a twist :

Angeliu - I'd like to to know your Top 5 Movies with Spooning Scene. You like spooning so much, I'm sure you have your own list of spooning scenes you like ... Top 5 Spooning Scene in Movie is also acceptable. =)

Applegal - Can you share your Top 5 Court room scene in movies. You law student mah ... sure got something one ...

JL - Let's see what's your Top 5 Lame movie scene or Top 5 Lame movie ... got ah? Neh ... those lame scenes ...? Got ah ? Ok ...

Kenny Ng - This rock brader ... I wanna know what's the rock brader's Top 5 Rock Movie ?

Winn - You like to layang layang, hor? Can let us know what's your Top 5 Layang Layang movie ?

5 Things You Don't Know About The Monster

When the day comes when you're delighted to see yourself getting tagged to do a meme of any sort, you know it's that time of the month ... when ideas have dried up, and there isn't too much happening as well.

Angeliu tagged me, and wants to know 5 things about me that is previously unknown. Hehe ... sure ... with glee ...

Since most other bloggers who've responded to this also wrote primarily about their childhood, or at least touch the subject of childhood, I'll stick to the same topics ...

Unknown Fact #1
:
On the last day on my first year in school, I actually had a fight with some Standard 6 kids. I don't remember much, but I and some other kids in my class bashed the heck out of the Standard 6 kids. Brooms, chairs, shoes, water ... we used just about everything against them. I also recall this totally mind numbing rotan session administered by mum after that. I actually don't know how this fact would benefit you readers, but I was asked to point out things you don't know about me, right ?

Unknown Fact #2
:
As a young child, I was the naughtiest thing you can find. I think I would've smacked the little version of me if I met him today. I was every kindergarden teacher's nightmare. I was always climbing and jumping from high places. Until this one day when I fell down head first from a 1 storey high train house, and had these massive swelling on the left temple of my head. I remember the swelling went on for at least a month. And ever since that day, my climbing days were over.

Unknown Fact #3: My parents always thought I wouldn't do very well in school. We couldn't really afford tuition, and unlike other parents, my parents could not help me with my homework. Then, one day, I turned up with straight 100's on my report card in Standard 2. My mum still keep that report card. =)

Unknown Fact #4
:
Once in my uni days, me and my pals got really drunk, and we all dared each other to do silly things. I was the only one who successfully carried out my dare. And my dare? To eat 8 large, juicy, Australian watermelon. I think that's when I started to get fat ... because of the expanded tummy I got. I remember going to the toilet very often that night.

Unknown Fact #5: I used to be the straightest, most naive, and trusting person you'd ever meet. I once got ffk'ed for bowling by a girl who claimed she had to see a dentist. And I once got ffk'ed again by another girl who was supposed to come watch the Phantom of the Opera, she claimed to have forgotten it all. I guess you can also read from this unknown fact, that girls like to ffk me. For the unititiated, ffk = fong fei kei = skip a date / no show at some appointment.

So, there you have it, 5 fun, albeit unknown facts about Moz. After you've read it, I hope you are closer to knowing me better. And I hope girls will stop ffk-ing me. It's no fun anymore !!! Pleaseeeeeeee ?

As for tagging, I'd like to just tag 2 persons:
(1) Applegal - haven't seen her do a meme before.
(2) Infectioner - Ipoh boy, tell me something I don't know !!!

Green Monster

Angeliuliu gave me an assignment. Said she wanted to see more photos. *Next time, just ask me to bring laptop lah*

Her assignment is not easy ... it had to be color coordinated photo. And from the looks of it, there needed to be some color theme to it too. Anyways, since Moz has good vibes about Angeliuliu, he filtered thru piles and piles and sorted MB upo MB of photos in his quest to please Angeliuliu.

So, ok. Moz being a monster, is obviously a fan of the color GREEN. Yeah, green. How hard is it to make the color green stand out? Very.

So, I picked 5 green photos and 1 not so green, but extremely color coordinated photo for the viewing pleasure of angeliuliu and my 5, maybe 6 dedicated readers.

Enjoy.

My green joss stick holder.

Rice. The essense of life for most Asians.

Drops of water on a lotus leave.

See the ants? Scene from the Putrajaya Botanical Gardens.

Guardian watching over Bali rice terraces.

The not so green picture ... sandstone Buddha head rested on the roots of a bodhi tree in the compounds of Wat Mahathat in Ayuthaya, Thailand. The color just blends, no?
